The distinctive reddish-brown and white-banded Zebra stone is sedimentary rock from the east Kimberley, WA, formed during the late Precambrian (around 670 million years ago). The zebra stone has colour banding of iron oxide, hematite rich bands and sericite, fine-grained white mica.
Participants will select Zebra stones for earrings and stencil a shape to cut, or work on the freeform piece. Australian Zebra rock and Darwin porcellanite beach rock will be used in the class.
The stones are soft enough to be sanded and polished, then drilled, ready for assembly. The stones are sealed and set to earrings with sterling silver or gold plated findings.
The workshop will also cover the art of crafting ear hooks with sterling silver wire, adding an extra layer of skill to the earring making experience.
For this lapidary workshop, please wear old clothes as you may get a light amount of oil or water spray from these or sanding process. Eye protection will be provided or bring your eye glasses and wear covered shoes.

Cancellations with full refund can be made up until 2 weeks prior to workshop commencement, however individual classes will not be refunded due to nonattendance.
