Abstracted landscape forms created with textiles and stitching.
Landscapes can be of Savannahs, Seas, Mountains, Forests, Cities, Towns, Clouds, Aerial views or imagined scapes.
In this class we will explore a memory of place, an image, or the feeling of a landscape by abstracting shapes, tones, colours and textures using floral and patterned fabrics that evoke the imagined landscape or the held image.
These selected textile pieces will be cut and stitched to a backing fabric of calico. We will be using a simple running stitch to begin, and can be embellished with decorative stitching like couching to create lines or give the appearance of grass, trees or tracks.
This contemporary approach to illustrating in textiles differs greatly from traditional appliqué.
You will be guided through the process step by step, beginning with building your landscape scene from your chosen textiles, pinned to the backing fabric ready to stitch in place.
The stitching can be as simple or intuitive as you wish, you will be shown different embroidery stitches and techniques to create visual textures and movement.
No experience necessary, yet ability to use a hand sewing needle, scissors and pins an advantage.
You are welcome to bring threads and textiles from your own stash, an image to work from and any other embellishments that can be stitched to textiles.

Cancellations with full refund can be made up until 2 weeks prior to workshop commencement, however individual classes will not be refunded due to nonattendance.
