Pieces of Me: Fragments of Belonging

28 May to 13 June 2026

Pieces of Me: Fragments of Belonging is the debut solo exhibition by artist Nisita Velagapudi—a deeply personal body of work that reflects her journey through migration, illness, and the ongoing search for belonging. Through painting and ceramics, Nisita brings together fragments of her lived experience, weaving stories of resilience, cultural memory, and self-discovery.

Having lived in India, New Zealand, and now Australia, Nisita draws on the colours, textures, and emotional landscapes of each place she has called home. These layered influences are evident in her work, where shifting identities and environments merge into expressive forms. Her practice is further shaped by her experience living with Crohn’s disease and the mental health challenges that often accompany chronic illness. In this context, art becomes both a sanctuary and a means of processing, offering space for vulnerability, strength, and healing.

Each piece in this exhibition carries an intimate narrative—moments of struggle, growth, and reflection translated through colour, form, and material. Together, they form a visual language that speaks to the complexity of the human experience.

Through Pieces of Me, Nisita invites audiences to step into her story and connect with their own. It is an exhibition that celebrates resilience and reminds us that identity is not singular, but made up of many evolving fragments.
