In this 1-day workshop Fiona will teach the technique of using wicker also known as cane or pith cane learn how to weave a basket using the techniques of tabby and twining. To introduce the workshop Fiona will give a brief overview of her practice and basketry in Australia and where she sources her materials. Participants will make a medium size flat bottom basket using 3mm wicker.
Fiona Gavino graduated from Charles Darwin University with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (2006) and was selected to show in the premier national graduate show 'Hatched', she currently lives and works in Fremantle (WA). Her work has toured nationally and internationally and in her field she is a recognised and respected fibre artist. Fiona Gavino has been described as an intercultural artist working the traditional into the contemporary who strives to use basket making materials and techniques in new and innovative ways across sculpture, installation, video and printmaking.

Materials provided but participants may wish to bring along their own long nose tweezers and wear closed in footwear and comfortable clothing.
Minimum class size 5, maximum 12. Class subject to cancellation due to insufficient bookings in which case fees paid will be refunded. Full student refunds can be issued up to 7 working days prior to commencement, however individual classes will not be refunded due to nonattendance.
