Join textile artist Loani Prior for a 2 day workshop in knit design & techniques for making a Tea Cosy. Loani is author of four Wild Tea Cosy books https://www.loaniprior.com/books and co-conspirator of the Regional Travelling Exhibition Portraits of a Tea Cosy.
Tea Cosies are funny even when they are not meant to be funny. A Tea Cosy is the perfect little project to learn a great number of knitting skills. Loani uses the iconic tea cosy to;
- improve your knitting with essential tricks and techniques
- ‘read’ your knitting so that you are not reliant on every line of a pattern and no longer fret over a lost count.
- knit in the round with the magic loop - a versatile skill you can then transfer to knitting socks and jumpers and bags and all sorts of fabulous things
- knit in colour stranding (Fair Isle technique)
- understand the simple maths of shaping with increasing and decreasing stitches
And in the especially fun bit, you will
- make best friends with delicious, delectable colour
- learn to love knitting outside the square.
The workshop is prescriptive and creative all at once. You will follow a diagram (not a pattern). If you can knit a stitch and purl a stitch and cast on and cast off, you can join this class.

Two sessions

10 am to 5pm
Participants will be provided with feathers and felt balls and beads and all sorts of bits and bobs to make your tea cosy stupendous. There will be stash of Nundle 8 ply wool available to purchase, in colours that will make your tea cosy a very fine fellow indeed. You will have an opportunity to choose your colours on the day.
Participants must bring:
Teapot: VERY important, bring a small classic round bellied teapot, not bigger than 42 cm around the belly or taller than 12 cm. This will ensure that you have the opportunity to learn all the techniques and have a finished cosy at the end of the two days.
Wool: 8ply wool (not acrylic) various bright colours .
Needles: Circular needles 4.5 mm in width and 80cm cable length. Don’t spare the cost. You will love using them. Brands recommended: ChiaoGoo Red Stainless Steel Fixed Circles, Addi Circular Turbo Rocket, Knit Picks Caspian Fixed Circular Knitting Needles.
Tools: Scissors, knitting darning needle, crochet hook
Minimum class size 5, maximum 10. Class subject to cancellation due to insufficient bookings in which case fees paid will be refunded. Full student refunds can be issued up to 7 working days prior to commencement, however individual classes will not be refunded due to nonattendance.
