with Anne McMaster
This one day workshop will introduce you to basic etching techniques using aluminium and a salt/sulfate etching solution. This method of etching can be used at home or in the classroom with students. Both sides of your etching plate can be used for fine line design aesthetics, or areas of tonal aquatints. Students can draw straight onto the plate with black sharpie pens or draw through the bitumen ground with an etching needle.
It is advisable to bring some pre-determined line drawing designs, or your sketch book to explore some quick inspirational references. The size of your etching plate will be 15cm square. You will take home your etching trials and final, your plate, information on how to mix an etch solution and a list of suppliers so you can source your own materials.
