Join Darwin artist, Aly de Groot for a cyanotype printing workshop. Cyanotype, is also known as sun-printing and is an alternative photographic process where objects are placed on paper or fabric and exposed to sunlight to make a beautiful blue print.

Explore the shapes of leaves found on a walk as well as objects woven in the class to make a series of sun-prints on paper, fabric and gift cards. Toning techniques to make your prints different colours will also be explored , using plant dyes made from materials found readily in your kitchen and garden.

This class is suitable for beginners but also an opportunity for those with experience to extend their practice.

Aly de Groot is a Darwin based fibre artist with over 20 years experience of sharing her passion for basketry across the NT as well as Nationally and Internationally in workshops and exhibitions in schools, universities, festivals and remote communities. in 2018 she completed her PhD at Charles Darwin University where her research question focused on contemporary basketry practices and environmental preservation. In 2023 she will travel Europe as a Churchill Fellowship recipient investigating endangered basket making techniques and avenues being taken to preserve this important knowledge. Aly is a generous  and inspirational  mentor, guiding  diverse groups in a gentle and trauma informed way, sharing creative tools she knows are effective for health and happiness.


All materials and equipment are provided. Bring along a collection of natural materials or wind fallen leaves that you wish to print. Flat objects with interesting shapes work best such as leaves, pressed flowers, seedpods, cutout shapes, woven materials. Please wear closed in footwear and sensible clothing that you don't mind getting dirty and bring your own lunch.

Minimum class size 5, maximum 10. Class subject to cancellation due to insufficient bookings in which case fees paid will be refunded. Full student refunds can be issued up to 7 working days prior to commencement, however individual classes will not be refunded due to nonattendance.
