The Art of Monoprinting- the characteristic of this printmaking method is that no two prints are the same. Mono printing has the potential to make dynamic and complex prints, or atmospheric sketches with charming simplicity. Discover mono printing and mono typing, both involve the transfer of ink from a plate to paper or other surface. A thick layer of ink is laid down on a table, perspex or glass plate, paper is placed on top and drawn onto.
Participants will make multiple mono prints on papers of different colours and sizes using quality Permaset inks, printing paper, wooden tools and rollers.
Workshop 1- Painterly monoprints, painting the image on the slab, ghost prints and linear monochrome monotypes with organic material.
Workshop 2- Carving a stencil board, collage textures and patterns, clean crisp edges using the pressure of the press.
More applications to the print with collage media of torn tissue paper, shapes, netting, lace etc and inking colours to areas of the plate there's the potential to create a truly unique work of art.
Monoprinting uses a theme, a feature, lines or textures, a template of an intended image, that connects each print. A simple line monotype can carry intriguing qualities that a line drawing in pencil or pen may not possess. By adding layers of colour, lines textures and stencilled media, the results can be surprising; subtle, dramatic and spontaneous- depending on how you work with this exciting method of image making.
