Opens: 5:30pm, Friday 1 September
Since 2011 the Territory Wildlife Park has been offering artists the opportunity to access the Park, its animal collections and tap into the knowledge and expertise of its keepers and guides over a 12 month period. In that time the Park has hosted artists from very diverse disciplines ranging from writers, shoemakers, textile artists, jewellery makers, digital artists, sound recording artists, dancers and choreographers, needle-felt artists, weavers, printmakers, photographers, mosaic and ceramic artists, sculptors, painters, illustrators and mixed media artists. Since 2011 the AIP program has had 40 different artists participate.
In response to having access to the Park’s amazing collection of Flora and Fauna there have been exhibitions of artworks, performances on site, submissions to art awards and competitions, weaving ,writing and en plein air painting workshops on Park and the creation of national award-winning works. The Artists-in-the-Park program has provided many artists with inspiration, reference material and an amazing resource to help inform and inspire their artistic practice.
At the Territory Wildlife Park there is a strong focus on bringing ART/SCIENCE and CONSERVATION ISSUES together through their interpretation and education program. The interpretive program focuses on developing community art and conservation projects that involve local artists working with the community to create artistic installations with a conservation message throughout the Park. Some of these projects include the Animal lantern project, the Giant Clam graveyard, Oolloo Sandbar mosaic poles, Crocheted Coral Reef and the Atlas Moth Felted Forest project.
This exhibition showcases the incredible diversity, skill and creativity that has been incubated and developed as result of the Territory Wildlife Park’s Artist-in-the-Park program and the Community Art/Conservation Education program.

The exhibition is complimented by a video installation, with selected artists, by Maningrida Arts & Culture and water themed fabric design from Babbarra Women’s Centre.
About Maningrida Arts & Culture
We are an Aboriginal art centre that empowers local artists to pursue successful global careers from their homeland and township bases. Their artwork is of exceptional quality and cultural integrity, and we market and sell it to visitors, collectors and institutions throughout the world.
Senior artists have the authority to channel their cultural knowledge and connections to country and activate new cultural expressions emerging from djang (the life-giving creative power that resides in ancestral country), invoking customary ways and practices, experimenting with visual forms, and inventing the contemporary.
